COBie in a nutshell…
What is COBie?
COBie, short for (Construction Operation Building Information Exchange), is the international open-standard specification for data used to manage and maintain facility assets. It is simply the life-cycle information of manageable and maintainable assets including all spaces, products and equipment found on design drawings along with all as-built, operations & maintenance (O&M), and commissioning information captured during construction.
COBie is not a new contractual requirements rather a new standardized way to deliver asset life-cycle information following an objectively testable standard specification.
COBie can be required whenever a handover occurs, including:
- End of construction of a new building.
- End of construction of a renovated building.
- Existing facility undergoes a change in management or ownership.
COBie standard is published as part of the National BIM Standard-United Stated NBIM-US. Chapter 4.2 and Annex A.
COBie v2.4 is the current version of the standard as published in 2015.
